A Few Places To Visit

Buckingham Palace

No trip to London is complete without a visit to at least the environs of Buckingham palace to marvel at its vast splendour. If it’s a trip through the gates and into the state rooms you’re after though, you’ll be able to visit during August and September with adult tickets available for between £20 – £30, although group and family bookings offer better value. Buckingham Palace is the official residence of the Queen where she in effect goes to “work”, however, if you’re hoping to spot her during August and September it’s highly unlikely she’ll be there as the palace opens during these months when the queen is away in Balmoral Castle in Scotland. With 50,000 visitors each year, you’ll need to plan your visit well in advance in order to avoid disappointment.

Madame Tussauds

Madame Tussauds

In these days of Facebook and selfies, there’s no better place to rub shoulders with famous memes and get a few headshots with your favourite celebrities than Madame Tussauds. The beauty of the waxwork copies is that unlike the actual celebs they won’t get tired of posing for pics and you can spend your time snapping away until your heart’s content without any flunkies moving you on. The other advantage is that you can really get a feel for how tall or short your favourite celebrities are and their scale. The curation of the attraction is such that the exhibits reflect current and past cultural and historical icons which are updated regularly to capture the zeitgeist. However, you’ll always find much-loved state leaders such as the current president, Queen and other members of the British Royal Family.

If you fancy a bit of monkeying around and want to have a great day out with the family, you will have a wonderful time watching all the animals at play at London Zoo. From magnificent lion kings to cute penguins, majestic giraffes and greedy gorillas, London Zoo has something for everyone. If you’d like to get a feel for animals like ostrich or kangaroos in the outback or spot some penguins at the beach, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a busier family attraction. Make sure you set out early though and plan your visit well as there are lots to see across a really big site! Tickets start from approximately £20 for adults, but again better value can be had if you book a group or family ticket.
